Battery Packs for Power Tools and High-Drain Equipment

A power tool does not buy a cell, it buys a pack: cells welded together, a protection board, a housing that survives a drop and a connector that fits the tool. We build packs to a specification rather than selling a catalogue item.

Why do power tools use packs instead of single cells?

Because a motor wants current that a single AA or D cell cannot deliver for long. A pack puts cells in series for voltage and parallel for current, adds a protection board to stop over-discharge and short circuit, and packages the result so it survives being dropped and recharged hundreds of times.

  • Series cells set the voltage; parallel cells set the current capability.
  • A protection board prevents over-charge, over-discharge and short circuit.
  • The housing and connector are tool-specific — they are what makes the pack fit and lock.
  • The cells inside are the part that decides how long the pack lasts.

Which chemistries do we build packs with?

Two main routes: nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) for tools and equipment where a robust, cost-controlled pack is wanted, and lithium-ion where energy density and weight matter more. The cell inside decides how long the pack lasts, so the chemistry choice is made against the duty cycle rather than the price list. Our group companies extend this into larger lithium modules.

ChemistryTypical useNote
NiMHPower tools, cordless equipment, replacement packsRobust, widely accepted, no transport restriction of the same kind as lithium
Lithium-ionHigh-energy tools, e-bikes, portable equipmentRequires UN38.3, transport documentation
Li-MnO₂ coin cellsBackup and control circuits inside equipmentSame cells as our button cell range

TIANQIU Energy builds home energy storage and smart-lock lithium batteries; TIANRUI Energy builds lithium modules and storage for e-bikes, UPS, storage cabinets and inverters.

Who do we build packs for?

Foxter, the E.Leclerc retail own-brand in France, is one of the brands in our customer set, and its range includes 18V power tool battery packs. That is the shape of the work: the tool maker or the retail brand owns the tool, the pack specification and the branding; we build the pack.

We describe the channel and the product category. We do not publish order quantities, unit prices or delivery dates for any customer.

What has to be agreed before a pack can be quoted?

A pack quotation needs six things, and a missing one usually comes back as a question rather than a price. The first two decide whether the pack is even possible; the rest decide cost, tooling and lead time, so it is worth having all six settled before you ask for a number.

ItemWhy it matters
Voltage and capacitySets the cell count and the series/parallel layout
Maximum discharge currentDecides the cell type and whether a protection board is mandatory
Housing and connectorTool-specific; often the longest lead item if a new mould is needed
Charging methodDetermines the protection and balancing approach
BrandingPrinted on the housing and the label
Destination marketSets the certification and transport documentation you will need

What ships with a pack order?

Lithium packs travel as regulated goods, so the documentation matters as much as the hardware. We hold UN38.3 for the lithium range, can supply an SDS, and give every published model its own EU declaration of conformity reference number for EU market placement.

  • UN38.3 test summary for the lithium range.
  • SDS / MSDS on request for carriers and customs.
  • EU Regulation 2023/1542 conformity with a per-model declaration reference number.
  • Cell-level certificates: ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, BSCI, UL, CE, RoHS, SGS, PONY.

Frequently asked questions

Do you build packs to our tool or to a standard form factor?

To your specification. Send the voltage, capacity, maximum discharge current, housing requirement and connector type, and we will tell you what is feasible and what has to change. A pack that has to fit an existing tool usually needs the housing dimensions before anything else can be fixed.

Can the pack carry our brand?

Yes. A pack OEM project is the same arrangement as our cell OEM work: we build the pack and print your brand on the housing and label. The tool, the pack specification and the branding are yours.

Do you supply replacement packs for discontinued tools?

We build to a specification rather than to a catalogue, so a replacement pack is possible where the original specification can be established. Send us the original pack data and we will tell you what we can match.

What is the minimum order for a custom pack?

Packs are quoted per project because the housing and connector drive the tooling cost, so the minimum depends on whether a new mould is required. Send the specification and we will quote against it rather than giving you a range.
