CR2016 Battery - 3.0V Lithium Coin Cell
The CR2016 lithium 3.0V coin cell — 20mm diameter, 75mAh ~ 100mAh capacity. Ideal for car key fobs, motherboards.
What are the specifications of a CR2016 battery?
The CR2016 is a Lithium coin cell rated 3.0V, with a nominal capacity of 75mAh ~ 100mAh. It measures 20mm across and 1.6mm thick, and weighs 1.6-1.9g (only for reference). The table below gives the full specification — final values are confirmed on the OEM spec sheet for your project.
| Chemistry | Lithium |
|---|---|
| Voltage | 3.0V |
| Diameter | 20mm |
| Thickness | 1.6mm |
| Capacity | 75mAh ~ 100mAh |
| Weight | 1.6-1.9g (only for reference) |
| Compatible | CR2016 = ECR2016 = 5000LC = DL2016 |

CR2016 vs CR2032
The CR2016 is far thinner (1.6mm) than the CR2032 (3.2mm). Both are 20mm 3V cells, but a thin 1.6mm holder cannot take a 3.2mm CR2032. Match the height printed on the old cell.
| CR2016 | CR2032 | |
|---|---|---|
| Diameter | 20mm | 20mm |
| Thickness | 1.6mm | 3.2mm |
| Voltage | 3V | 3V |
| Capacity | ~90mAh | ~220mAh |
What are the CR2016 battery characteristics?
These are the CR2016 performance figures we declare under EU Regulation 2023/1542: rated capacity and the maximum available duration under a standard continuous load. Real discharge performance depends on load, temperature and cut-off voltage, so the exact test conditions are stated underneath the table.
| Capacity | MAD |
|---|---|
| 75mAh / 0.225Wh | 700hours |
| 80mAh / 0.24Wh | 800hours |
| 90mAh / 0.27Wh | 900hours |
| 100mAh / 0.30Wh | 1000hours |
Capacity & MAD test condition: 30kΩ continuously to 2.0V @ 20±2℃
Shelf life: One year after delivery under normal storage, 98% of initial capacity maintained
EU Declaration No. TQ-EUDOC-CR2016-20260622 · Compliant with Regulation (EU) 2023/1542
What batteries are equivalent to the CR2016?
The CR2016 is interchangeable with any cell of the same diameter, thickness and voltage, so an equivalent can be substituted without changing the device. Buyers look these cells up under three numbering systems at once — IEC, ANSI and manufacturer codes — and the list below covers the names the CR2016 is sold under.
Look any number up in the cross-reference tool → — type the marking on your cell and see where it lands, or pick your device and see the cells we supply for it.
Same cell, other designation or brand code — direct replacement

Same diameter, thicker cell — check the holder before substituting
| Number on the cell | Published by |
|---|---|
| CR2025 | IEC 60086 size designation, 20.0 × 2.5 mm — 0.9 mm thicker than CR2016 |
| CR2032 | IEC 60086 size designation, 20.0 × 3.2 mm — 1.6 mm thicker, so it will not fit a compartment cut for CR2016 |
Where is the CR2016 battery used?
The CR2016 is used in car key fobs, motherboards and other compact devices that draw small currents over long periods. Its 3.0V output and 75mAh ~ 100mAh capacity suit equipment that has to run for months without a battery change. The blocks below set out what to check for each device type.
CR2016 in Car Key Fobs
Most modern car key fobs and remote controls run on a CR2016 coin cell. Nissan, Honda and Toyota remotes commonly use the CR2016 (check the exact cell printed inside before ordering). When the range drops, the fob battery is usually the first thing to change.
CR2016 for Motherboard CMOS
The motherboard CMOS battery keeps your BIOS settings and system clock powered when the PC is off. Many desktop boards and laptops use a CR2016 — a dead cell is the usual cause of a "wrong system time" or lost BIOS settings on boot.
CR2016 for Apple AirTag
The Apple AirTag runs on a removable CR2016 coin cell. To replace it: press and twist the back cover open, swap the old cell for a fresh CR2016, then re-seat the cover. A new CR2016 keeps your AirTag powered and alerts you when it gets low.
